Hello All,

I've got a ID document (52 pages)that has many, many linked tif, ai and psd files. I have been working on a local drive, but now my ID document (and all the linked images) have been moved to a server on a network. How can I re-link ALL the images globally to the new server location? I re-saved the ID document to the new server location, but it still shows the links to the local D drive location.

...on the server, are you images put into a folder called 'Links' or is the indesign file in the same folder as all your images?

...on your local drive are your images also in a folder called 'Links'?

...rename the folder or move the ones from your local drive to the trash or somewhere else completely...

...If all of the missing files are located in the same folder, you can restore all of them at once: First select all the missing links (or select nothing) and restore one link, then all of the remaining missing links will be restored automatically...

...open the doc from the server and see what happens...

Andrew

use your local (on your machine) indd doc and go to File menu/Package. Save that folder and move that to the server. Same as sending out indd docs to pinters etc.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Thanks guys,

I know I could package the document, but I didn't want to add additional files and folders to the ones already on the server location. I'll try what Andrew suggested.

...to add to my suggestion, have the indesign file from the server open. To break the links rename the local hard drive folder that contains the images to 'Links'...

...images on server in a folder called 'Links' or in the same folder as the indesign file that is currently open...

...update links...

Andrew

...of course if your folder is already called 'Links' on your hard drive then, as above, open the indesign file from the server, rename the folder on the hard disk to anything you like to break links...

...on the server, either have the images in the same folder as the indesign file or in a folder called 'Links'...

...in the indesign file currently open, update links...

...hope this makes sense, confusing me just typing it...

: )

Andrew

...as long as the images are in the same location and have the same names you should have success by having no links selected in your links palette and just clicking the relink button in the links palette...

...let us know if you have success...

Andrew

Thanks Andrew....makes perfect sense to me. When I get to work on Monday I will try that. Should work fine. Thanks a bunch.

Just an update....I ended up Packaging the document and links to the new server location. I discovered the links to the local drive were all over the place in a variety of folders, so too many to rename the folders. Oh well.....thanks anyways.
