When I try to open jpg format pictures I get a message stating that this is an unknown file extension, even though Microsoft Picture Editor opens it cannot read the format to open the picture. Anybody have an idea what is going on?, and what is the fix or solution to this problem. Thanx

Do you have any other photo editing software on your PC that you could try to open the picture with?

Yes there is other software only Kodak imaging . Muthabored, I had to flatten the machine, and re-install both Windows 2ooo Professional, and the MS Office 2000 Suite, both image viewers are installed through both of these installation, it just seems odd that they both, and the operating system and office suite do not recognise the jpg format, I am going to force MS Photo editor to open these jpg's, but it seems like this is an issue, as I have this problem before, only it seems after a new installation, of both OS and Office Software. I'll post my results, later,.

I have finally got this to work, I had to open Imaging then browse to the photo and open it, If I try to open the photo, I receive the error message unrecognised file format, even in folder options file types the jpg extension is shown, and setup for photo editor to open, The MS Photo editor says it does not recognise the file format. Anyway running imaging first, and then selecting the file seems to work.

I have come across this problem with a number of our users. I think it may be a permissions issue, at it opened the jpg file OK with a administrator login. I set the user up in the local admin group and it now works OK.

I usually have this problem with users running under user rights, I have to modify folder related to Photo editor in Program Files, and some keys in registry as well, so it starts working normally under user rights.
