Good day fellow techies,
I am a proficient administrator on a Meridian PBX and I'm trying to add a global option on a 2616 set where I can press a button and send out notifications to all users on the switch via there telephone about issues happening on the network. This came about by management when we had a major outage and the only communication still working was the PBX switch. I know you can use DIG groups, but to my knowledge you can only call one set at a time, based on the unique number, eg 09 DIG 1 10 V. Can anyone assist me or point me in the right direction to coming up with a solution?

You could use CallPilot and Group Distribution.

I don't know if splashing every phonesets screen in the building at a single time is possible. Sure would be cool to know for certain though.

Basically your looking to use your PBX as a giant SMS (txt msg) hub?

Actually we do have a paging system at front that the security uses where they can page floor by floor and oustide. There seems to be a 12 pair running in the back of it running to the PBS switch, what do you suggest?

I would think if you can page floor by floor and outside then there is more likely an ALL PAGE...I've never seen a command where you can send msgs to phones but like pronei said sounds pretty cool if possible...

Still thinking here.... Am I to assume correctly based upon your entry that the paging system was down also when you had your outage?

Nah it gets power from an emergency system.

I don't mean to be smart about this, why not just add another configuration to the paging system to page all floors at the same time and this would be a mute point.

But you could in all actuality tie the paging system into your PBX and do overhead pages that way. Which I would recommend. This way callers on the phone aren't barged in one for a page via the phones.

How about changing the IDLE SET DISPLAY to whatever you need (provided it's less than 27 characters)?

Maybe a sheet emailed out with a list of NETWORK STATUS X

where x =:

1 = normal
2 = partially down
3 = maintenance
4 = emergency down
5 = estimated 2 hours to return to normal

or something like that?

Then just change the display as necessary.

I can't see using overhead page to inform users about network issues. Most companies post such issues on an Intranet (which usually isn't part of the outage) or you hear about it in a recording before an agent picks up when calling the Help Desk.

I like the idea of the idle set display, but, as posted, that is not a lot of room to write.

Voicemail distribution groups would also accomplish what you need to do.

How would I do this with either option, cause I am using Meridian Mail. But how would I set that group list up John?
