I've got too many system errors from ussing a Norton System works that changed my operating sys in ways that will require me to either do a clean install or overlay. I've done the overlay on 95, 98, but i'm getting a message about loosing DATA when I start the process with Win 2K Pro (NOT server)CAn I do it & just go get all the Microsoft updates & Service packs later without loosing program data files ?

Re-Installing Win 2K Pro over existing Win 2K Pro 1

yo yo, I just went through that yesterday! Lost all my stuff. I had succesfully installed the new win2k pro but was left with 2 operating systems. I fooled around some more, learnt some more and then boom all my files were gone...My only advice is burn the files you are sure you dont wanna lose.

if you boot your computer from the floppy disks or CD, choose install and when you get to the screen where it displays your hard disks partitions and choose your win2k instalation and press r (i think- it says at the botom) for repair. it will replace all your windows 2000 installation without moving data.
