Hi All,

We have recently retired one of our older NT servers and replaced it with a new one running Windows 2000 Server.

I am trying to install the Remote Agent onto the new server with the license from the old one.

I keep on getting the following error when installing:

"Error creating object on \\SERVER1 with SERVER1\ADMINISTRATOR. CoBESetup(262)(-2147023174)"

Has anyone seen this before?

Did you UNINSTALL the Remote Agent first? Take a look at BE, select HELP, select About Backup Exec. Is the Remote Agent listed in the popup window? If so, then BE 'believes' that particular license is currently being used and you cannot use one license on two instances.

The old server is dead and is not on the network.

When I look at the "Help,About" it is only showing me 1 Remote Agent installed, however I have 3 that I installed last year, should they not be showing as well.

As I understand it (from Veritas) any Remote Agents that Backup Exec is using will be listed in that window.

Insert your Backup Exec CD into the backup server. Select Install, but MAKE SURE THAT YOU ONLY CHOOSE TO INSTALL THE REMOTE AGENT. When you get to the part where you can enter licenses, enter all of the missing Remote Agent licenses. And I think the entering of the licenses comes before BE asks what you want to install.

Okay,

Just got a response back from Veritas support on this one.

They told me that the error code I was getting was because remote registry was not running on the 2000 box. But guess what, It was!!

Luckily they gave me a backdoor way to install the remote agent.

Thanks for all the help... mot98

I got around this issue by installing the BE agent locally on the machiine using the disk. I found I was only having this problem while trying to push the agent to the host over the network.
