I need to ensure that heading is CENTRED vertically on a page (which includes on the heading), i.e. i need to ensure its in the middle of a page.

Is there any other way apart from using the ruler!

What application?

No doesn't work -- i just need text centred.

Give your heading a unique style, set the "paragraph" formatting of that style to:

- 350 pt before
- 350 pt after
- page break above

You might have to slightly adjust the values, e.g. to 340 pt depending on your font size.

I need to ensure that heading is CENTRED vertically

Then white605's suggestion does work. What do you mean: "No doesn't work -- i just need text centred. " it doesn't work? It does center it on the page. If it is not working the way you want, then there is something else at issue.

Please describe.

Gerry

I have a blank page with just a heading.

I need to make sure it is exactly in the middle of the page!

White605 suggestion does not work this way. Probably you are not understanding what I need.

Makeitso suggestion will be tried later on.

Well maybe you can explain it a little more clearly.

Note: If you press enter after typing in the title, Word considers that to be a second line that also must be centered. Word will split the two lines of text at the middle of the page.

perhaps. However, I think I do. You want to center text in the middle of the page.

White605 suggestion does not work this way.

Oh yes it does.

If there is any not understanding, it could be that you are not explaining very well.

white605'as suggestion DOES center text vertically on a page. You are not telling us something. Let me see if I can help.

I have a blank page with just a heading.

Are you saying there is a single paragraph with a heading style, and you want that style to be centered vertically on the page. NOTE: this has made no comment on if you wish to be also centered horizontal. You have never mentioned that...yet.

However, white605's suggestion DOES center vertically. Any text added will adjust the paragraph to keep it centered vertically.

It may help if you describe precisely what you mean by "just a heading".

Gerry

The only content of the page is the word

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

I need it centered VERTICALLY i.e. on the Middle of the page.

I also want it centered horizontally, if that helps but its not an issue.

I want the title in the middle of the page!!!!

Can't you use White605's suggestion and then click on the centre text icon?

Did you read my or Gerry's comments?

A) What do you want it to do?
B) What about white605's proposed solution differs from what you want.

We aren't mind readers here, man!

Thank you. For some reason, I was doing something wrong and it wasn't centering.

Now please view the post on the grey boxes, and I am freaking! :)

No, I thought it work but it didn't.

After the heading I have a section break continuous.

Once I include this section break on this page, the text is not centred!!!!!

Like I said, you are not telling us things. However...you are still wrong (or not telling everything).

I just - right now - did as white605 suggested, and made the paragraph centered vertically. I also made it centered horizontal. Got it?

I put:

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

and it is centered vertical and horizontal.

I added a Continuous Section break.

Ahem. The text is still centered. If you add paragraphs, then of course it will adjust and move accordingly. Are you using any of those "empty" paragraphs?

I have to ask. Why on earth would you use a continuous Section break if you are wanting to have the text (CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION) positoned as you state?

Gerry

Ok gerry. Well let me explain things more clearly, hopefully this will resolve my problem

I have the following

_____________________________________________________-

CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION

_____________________________________________________

Section Break continuous (since the following pages have headers etc)

Page Break

I follow the procedure by white applied only to the Section where there is the introduction.

And it simply does not go centred!!!!

Ok, if that doesnt work there is another way to do this...
Fillup your page with carriage returns to the next page
Select the entire contents of the first page
File/PageSetup/Margins (top) (bottom)
Calculate how big the margins need to be all except the text to be vertically centered
Subtract the height of the text you want to put there
Set the top margin to 1/2 and bottom to 1/2 of this value
Select "apply to selected text"/ok
Now, the first page has funny margins
This is not the best way to do it....Eyeballing or letting word center the stuff would be better...

If, after following the instructions provided, it is not centered -- where is it?
