Last week, something bizarre started to happen. When ever I log in using Remote Desktop from my home computer (XP Pro) to my work computer (XP Pro), the remote computer (Work computer) instantly shuts down (does not reboot).
Today I tested to connect to the work computer from a computer running XP Pro on the LAN, bypassing any kind of VPN solution, and the same thing happens. As soon as I enter my username and password, the remote computer shuts down. However, nothing happens unless I do that (the login screen is displayed just fine).

I haven't installed/uninstalled any software lately apart from graphic card drivers (Nvidia 7 series) and Event Viewer does not log any issues at all. Not a single red X or a warning.

What is causing this and what should I do to resolve this?

I had to go back to drivers from 2006 in order for it to work. The Nvidia drivers made the last year all causes this to happen, which is why I excluded driver issues (I tried a bunch).

But now it's all good again.

Can the computer which is the problem remotely connect to any Desktop in your LAN if it initiates the connection?

Suspecting the Nvidia card and drivers, what happens if you start the computer in Safe Mode and enable VGA Mode: This option starts Windows in 640 x 480 mode, using the current video driver (not Vga.sys). This mode is useful if the display is configured for a setting that the monitor cannot display. After that what happens if you just disable the Nvidia card from the Device Manager and try that?
