What has happened to the ability to edit the user credentials on the latest MS RDP client? Last week I painstakingly drafted instructions for a user as to how to change the details in the Logon settings section of the Client. She said she didn't have any access to these settings, I scratched my head and presumed user error, but now mine have gone too!

What have MS done now? Any idea of a work around?

One of the recent updates was a new version of the RDP client to support some of the Vista features.

Saving user credentials in an RDP connection isn't a good idea from a security standpoint (what's the point of having them if you're going to enter them automatically?).

When the user attempts to connect, they're prompted for credentials.

IDK about the new one, but u may still be able to create a profile file for a connection and hard-code your credentials in it. Try going to a machine with the old client and setting your options, and then saving it to an external file. You can edit the file with notepad and change the settings. Try executing that on the machine that has the new client installed. See if that works.

Thanks for your help and ideas guys.

A reversion to the 5.2 client seems to clear the problem and gives back all the functinality required.

The RDP 6 client is a complete dog and should be avoided if at all possible!

All a matter of opinion, of course. I don't like the autohiding toolbar or the fact that it always tries to use servername/username instead of just username.

Other than that, I do like it.

Or the fact that it takes at least 10 times as long to start, even on my brand new dual core vPro desktop, and upto 30 seconds on my poor users PC which is a little long in the tooth!

I appreciate your feelings regarding the increased security with the 6.0 Client but my userbase isn't generally very IT savvy and require IT and has to be fairly simple to use.

RDP 6.0 just doesn't work very well for my organisation whereas RDP 5.2 does.
