The situation is this:

Server is Win 2K
Client is Win 98
User logs in via the LAN
login script maps appropriate network drives

But when...
Client is Win 98
User logs in via "Dial-up networking" using VPN
No login script is executed, but drives may be manually mapped.

Why would the login script not be processed when the user logs in to a VPN connection ?

What script software are you using or are you just creating a manually batch file.

I had this problem with WINNT4.0 and the only way I could get the script to work from a dialup connection was to use Kickstart 95 script software.

I know this is Win2k but it was just a thought.

Are you implementing Group Polcies? If so then Win98 won't take it in the script. Upgrade time my friend! Steve Hewitt

You may also try this...
To work around this issue, you can click Cancel when you are logging on at Windows 98 startup. Then, when you dial the RAS server, you again receive the dialog box to log on. This time, the logon script associated with the account runs correctly. However, if you cancel the initial Windows 98 logon prompt, be aware that you will be unable to save your passwords when you connect by using Dial-Up Networking to other servers.

Update the host and lmhost files in windows directory these may need to be pointed to the server IP

The script is a very simple batch file that contains...

Net use S: \\server\shareddata

This will work fine is typed manually after the RAS connection has been established, so I know the lmhosts file is not going to affect the issue.

I am trying to keep it a simple as possible, as my user's are not technical people. I have alternatives, but the automatic script during logon is the most simple for the end user, and should reduce the likelyhood of support calls.
