Randomly rebooting 1230 set ... 1

Hi everyone:

I'm struggling to diagnose a problem with a random reboot on a 1230 set ... mine, of course! :) It's been happening for the last few months. I've checked continuity between the jack and the patch panel, and I also checked continuity from the cable leaving the phone and going to the wall, and from the patch panel to the switch. Everything checks out. I suppose it could be a transient issue that's not showing up regularly, but I'm a bit stumped as to how to diagnose this. I even tried switching phone sets, thinking it was the phone itself. No luck there either .. .the swapped set has been rebooting as well.

I am utilizing the data port, and I do lot of stuff on the computer that generates quite a bit of network traffic. Could it be possible that I'm flooding the data port and overloading the phone, causing a reboot?

If anyone has any other ideas, I'm all ears!

Thanks,

-M

I've seen this issue before and the line that was run was stranded instead of solid wire. If that's not your issue, maybe try and replace patch cords and see if that makes a difference.

Well ... I'm back again with this same issue. I'm at my absolute wits end with this! Here are the things I've done thus far:

-Tried a new LAN cord from the phone to the PoE switch ... no help.
-Tried a new LAN cord from the PoE switch to the wall jack ... no help.
-I completely replaced the cable from the wall jack back to the switch ... brand new wire and jacks ... no help.
-Tried a different PoE switch ... no help.
-Set up a different phone set and tried that ... no help.

It's driving me crazy. I'm talking to someone and the phone just cuts out. Especially frustrating when you're on with tech support, and you've waited 30 minutes to talk to someone! [mad]

My set is the ONLY set on the whole campus that's doing this ... no complaints from anyone else. I've replaced all of the cabling, and it's done nothing.

The only other thing I can think of are the KEM's I have connected to the phone set. I have two of them. Are they drawing too much power from the PoE port and causing random reboots? I do have a power adapter for the 1230 that I could connect and try. BUT ... our reception phone also has two KEM's attached to that phone, and there aren't any problems with that one, so I don't think that's it, either.

Can anyone think of anything else? Thanks for the continued help!

Use an external 48V power supply to power the set. It will also light up the expansion modules. So,ves that kind of problem every time.

Thanks telcodog. That's really the only thing I haven't tried yet. But we've got that other set with two KEM's on it and it's running completely off of PoE, no adapter on that one, either. I'm willing to try it, but my gut tells me that this isn't going to solve the problem, either.

Maybe it's an issue with one of the KEM's ... ??
