Random Timeout Errors

Hi!

I'm wondering if anyone can help on this one please. I'm currently running Veritas Backup Exec 9.0 in a mixed Windows NT/2000 Domain and I am receiving the following failures randomly on a nightly basis:

Job ended: Friday, February 27, 2004 at 1:58:24 AM
Completed status: Failed
Final error code: a00084f8 HEX
Final error description: A timeout occurred waiting for data from the agent during operation shutdown.

Final error category: Resource Errors

I've increased the timeout periods on the Backup Exec media server twice but to no avail it seems. At times I thought it worked because the backup of the remote NT server was performed without any problems whatsoever but tonight the same problem occurred again.

What I'm hoping could be the problem is that our switch and dual NICs on the remote NT server are set to Auto.
Would manually setting them to 100 FDX all the way solve the problem?

Has anyone experienced this before?

I can't understand how this problem has cropped up these past 2-3 weeks after using BE for the past 4 months now.

Thanks

Are these incremental or full backups? I had the exact problem with all of my incremental backups. I examined the event viewer and found that at the time that ESE started to perform the incremental backup of the information store (which, by the way, includes the exchange log files), it wasn't finding a particular log file (the name of the file is in the event). This was causing the ESE to stop, and terminate the remote agent, thereby the backup would timeout eventually and fail. There are two ways to correct this in my limited experience. The first is to run a fresh full backup using Veritas, or what I did (because I was having other issues getting full backup sto work using Veritas) was to do a full backup to disk of just the information store using the Win2K backup program. Once I ran this and saved it to disk (you could also save to tape, i was lazy) I then rant the incremental using Veritas BE and it then sailed through.

Hi!

Yesterday I upgraded my BEWS 9.0 to 9.1 The upgrade process went well and last night the backup job ran 100% successfully. BTW I am doing selective full backups.
Fingers crossed there won't be a repeat of the problem I experienced but apparently this problem exists also under 9.1 Oh and by the way Veritas support is absolutely rubbish!! I reported this problem over a week ago and no reply from them yet! Shameful!

Cheers
