Hello All,

Heres whatI have IP500 V2 8.1 (69) with 4 Comcast phone line trunks. This system was transferred to a new office and a random line will connect and say incoming with no caller ID. The random line will keep getting this incoming every 17 seconds then repeat in a second and is connecting to our auto-attendant. If someone at the site physically disconnects the line from the Comcast box it will stop for a bit and then resume on another random line sometimes two or three. Comcast came out and said it was internal and said they were getting info from there end that was the equivalent of someone picking up but not calling out. Below is the log with Line 1 and 4 misbehaving. Thanks

Does Comcast have voicemail on the line? This can be caused by their vm signaling.

It is Comcast had this happen a number of times when they have VM notifying a message was left, i.e. message wating light.
Mike

Is it possible the signaling changed between offices, Like they were ground start at the old office and loop at the new?

The lines might be too high a voltage. I have seen that cause this sort of issue.

Thanks for the responses guys, I called my rep after reading at Comcast and she said there were currently no Voicemail boxes on any of the lines. I am having a non Comcast tech go out and check what she said in person as I'm in another city. I would have had the Comcast tech verify while he was there but I had called my rep earlier and asked the VM to be turned off on all the lines. Currently I can somewhat keep lines clear by spamming Disconnect in System Status and some times it will clear all or some lines but not always. No rhyme or reason how to make it stop temporarily.

Geordie - Thanks I will check with the tech going out but I believe he defaulted the system. Budbyrd - I will check with the tech. Thanks

Ok Voltage was within normal range around 50 Volts on all the Comcast trunk lines but they varied from 48.2 to 51.1. As I said I verified there was no voice mail after they took it off but we suspected it was still alerting for vm so I called Comcast and it was and they cleared the alerts. My tech went out the next day and heard no VM tones. He listened on the line while the line was being seized and just heard the auto attendant and a pickup sound when it connected. By the way the behavior started when he did a cold reboot of the modem as it was coming on. Also when Comcast was clearing the voice mail alerts on each line, they would get seized. Just to reiterate when the line is seized it continues to do so in an endless loop until I reboot the PBX or after hitting hang up in System Status numerous times. Any other ideas out there? I think the next step is insist Comcast replace the modem.

Is it happening a lot, meaning can you take the line out of the IP Office and put a butt set on and see if it will happen? Have you run the attenuation on the lines?
Mike

No it just seems to happen at random, this morning all lines were exhibiting the behavior, at 5 the previous afternoon they were all clear. I looked at utilization summery duration and calculated the line went crazy in succession one would start then another would start an hour later and so on. The only times it started due to an action were when he cold booted the modem and when the Comcast rep was in his system stopping lingering voicemail notifications. Attenuation, I will have to ask my tech. He tested the voltage so I'm assuming he tested that?

have you run impedence matching on each line if it is not set to automatic?

It was automatic, but at my techs suggestion I turned it off but I didn't run the test. I will ask him first before I run the test though as there looks to be some variables.

I believe that it is Comcast.

They are sending some type of data signal that the KSU thinks/interprets as Caller ID.
That causes the CO Line(s) LED to be lit, and the KSU is waiting for the "End of Caller ID" data burst.
The "End of Caller ID" data burst is what tells the CO line to turn off the LED.
Since that signal is never received, the LED stays on and your CO Line looks like it is ceased/in use.

Here is the test:
Turn off Caller ID on all CO Lines, in the KSU, for a few days and see if the trouble "disappears".

If it does, then turn it back on and see if the trouble "returns".

Billxx you nailed it, made line type to loop only and all is working, I will have to address the caller id issue with Comcast which will be fun but I don't have to worry about all the trunk lines being saturated while I deal with that. Thanks to all as other comments as vm was probably an issue as well. Thanks and great forum.

Ok, I wanted to do a final post, in case anyone else has this problem with Comcast or any other POTs lines, I was adverse to starting a drama with Comcast so I started playing with settings in IPO as my location wasn't getting caller ID (after turning off ICLID)so through various hints in these forums I turned disconnect clear off on each line and turned back on 'Loop Start ICLID'. It all seemed to work until I came in the next morning and saw all lines were stuck on connections to various individuals voicemail boxes. I tested and if I called in and went to voicemail the connection would not let go after I hung up. So the next thing I did was turned on 'Unsupervised Analog Trunk Disconnect Handling' in System > Telephony. This seemed to work but what was strange when transferred from auto-attendant (it was set to unassisted transfer by the way), I no longer got a ring but instead I got the transfer/hold tones? I then uploaded hold music so folks calling in wont hangup due to the tones (and think they were disconnected) but I am not sure why doing the last step would make that happen. I might need to start a new thread but chime in here if you want on the non ringing issue. Once again thanks for the help

If this is embedded VM try normal transfer. I had something similar and the unsupervised always went to MOH instead of ringing.
