Random Pop-Ups?

Hi Guys,

I need your help. I am working on my Windows 2000 machine with internet explorer closed, and all of a sudden I'll get 20 pop-up ads randomly. This happens on a continous basis. I was surfing a website yesterday that asked me to install gain or gator or some other software, and I pressed yes by mistake. However, I closed explorer while it was trying to install the program. I do not see any bogus program in the add/remove programs list to get rid of. Any idea how to take care of this? What if I re-install explorer? I really do not want to download a pop-up killer or something. Please advise. Thanks!

Thanks. I did some research and downloaded the ad-aware program. It seems to have done the trick. Good stuff.

Try also Spybot Search & destroy. You can get it from downloads.com. I think it does a better job than AdAware.
