Stats: Socket Seven Motherboard; 500Mhz AMD; 256 Ram; Running Win98/IE5.5 with a DSL connection (Mindspring).

Problem: The mouse icon will randomly hesitate for 2 to 5 seconds. It seems to happen most often while on-line, but will also happen during normal desktop applications.

Solution Attempts: Following the suggestions from previous threads; All general disk drive maintenance completed: defrag; scandisk; empty bs files & recycle bin; Set File System Performance from Desktop to Network computer; hwinfo /ui sez all is OK. Systray is running at minimum (no virus checker). At boot-up the system resources are at 92% and 84% while on-line. All proper drivers have been verified.

Any other suggestions?????????

Did you axe FindFast?

I would, its on the startup menu - MSoffice "blesses" you with it. Big waste of resources.

Is there hard disk activity during the pause?

Thanks for the response Ray, FindFast was previously hunted down and took it like a champ when deleted.

No, the hard drive is quiet during the pause.

I used to have a similar symptom that I discovered was caused by my BIOS power saving parameters. I had screwed them up and my hard drive was powering down after only a few minutes. It took me months to figure it out! Also check the Power applet in Control Panel, and Display Properties on the Screen Saver tab.
