i'm having a problem where my computer randomly shuts itself down. the computer was royally fucked up, so i re-formatted the master drive, and after that, the computer now randomly decides when it would like to shut down, then it restarts itself. any ideas?

Sounds like a hardware issue
open the case and put a table fan in front of the opening and run that way for a while and see if that fixes your reboot

if it doesn't fix the reboot then it maybe software related

How old is this pc? Have you ever replaced the power supply?

When you have just about any problems it pays to first reset the bios. If it solves or helps solve the problem then its a fast and easy fix.

Some virus cause the restart problem and sometimes they survive a reformat of the drive. For this reason i always use the hard drive mfgrs troubleshooting program and write zeroes to the hard drive before i reformat it. With a hard drive that is known to be part of a system that was restarting all the time, i find that is a good way to go.
I also format the drive and when i install win xp i let it format the drive again.
