Hi all,

On a Win ME system I was recently using, I booted and saw that the RAM count reported 16 MB of RAM, which I thought was very low. So when the computer booted, I went to system information to see what it said. It said there were 128 MB of RAM. Also, the CMOS reported 128. Later, the owner of the computer told me that right at the time she bought the machine, she upgraded the RAM to 128 MB. Does anyone know why the RAM count at boot would report 16 MB? Thanks.

Drew

You're probably looking at the RAM of your video card.

Where does it say 16MB? In Windows?

A quick check would be to go to Start -> Run, type dxdiag and hit OK. On the "System" tab it will show you the total system RAM. On the "Display" tab, it will show the amount of memory the video card is using.

Perhaps like dakota said, you were getting the two confused?

Thanks for that utility, never heard of it before. On a similar note, on my w2k system, I have 256MB RAM. Is there a utility that will tell me what percentage of that is being used?

In Win2K, hit CTRL-SHIFT-ESC and go to the Performance tab. This should give you enough info...
