RAM error when opening up Illustrator CS2

Every time I open up Illustrator version CS2, an error window pops up while I am loading up. Basically, it says I do not have enough RAM to open up file. I have 4gigs of RAM and I have uninstalled Illustrator and deleted the preferences in my library. I rebooted and when I opened up Illustrator...the error still occurred. Please advice how to fix this annoying problem. Oh yeah, I have installed all the updates too.

...please calrify whether this occurs when you open a file or when you lauch illustrator on it's own...

...is this windows xp or mac os x?

... Have you ever added any photoshop plugins into the Illustrator application folders? Any plugins at all above and beyond what comes with the Illustrator install?

...does your system have thousands of fonts installed?

...try deleting the Adobe Illustrator program file directory after the uninstallation and before the reinstallation. This will clear out anything that stays, even though illustrator has apparently been uninstalled by add/remove programs if on windows...

This problem occurs both when I launch Illustrator and open up a file. The problem occurs once it is launch or file is opened...after that if I keep illustrator open, I can open up any file with out the error occurring. Error has me worried because I've been having a numerous of crashes while I'm saving (which currupts my working file). Regardless, the error window should not pop up during launch.

...in mac os x there are font cache files that can cause havoc...

...do a search in spotlight for any files that are called:

'adobefnt'

...trash any you find, these are cache files, if some get corrupted it causes problems...

...if you have Suitcase auto-activation plug-in in illustrator try removing it...

...sorry, leave the files that end in .db when searching for 'adobefnt', only trash the ones ending in .lst...

...no, never had this problem, although on INTEL at work CS2 is buggy, Illustrator crashed when using the pathfinder tool because of the appearance palette being open on launch...

...mac os 10.4.9 has now addressed this, however it still crashed in the background...

do you have your scratch disk set to your startup disk?

...an external scratch drive or partition can help...

...have you trashed the Illustrator settings folder in the user preference folder, not just the Illustrator preference within that folder?

...might be worth launching disk utility too, repair permissions, run it until you receive no more error messages...

...this is something that is recommended before and also after a new install of an application...
