hi all

I bought myself a ml 110 g7 and I have 2 drives attached but when it boots I do not see the orca display at all like I do with the dl servers for example. The spec says it has a raid card and when I go into the bios I can see it being specified as a intel Sata controller. When I google this i can it being stated as supporting raid levels etc.

Also where I purchased it, it mentioned the various raid levels it can do. I will contact them tomorrow when they open.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm not too fussed if I don't have raid but need to know it's either is or not possible with the currrent setup.

Thanks

J

Which Intel controller(s) specifically does it mention during boot? Not a Compaq server, by my home system with a Gigabyte UDR-3 motherboard has an Intel ICH10 controller definitely that supports RAID1 and possibly other RAID levels.

I can't remember the key combination to specify to get into the configuration... I think it's Ctrl-I, but I'll check.

I found out that my controller is a HP B110i storage controller and I can set up raid but only as a software raid option. To do this I had to go into the BIOS, Advanced Options and then SATA controller configuration or something similar to that effect and select enable. I then rebooted the server and saw the ORCA display and managed to choose 1+0 on my 2 disks, it can support RAID 0,1, 1+0 but not 5.

However to those who plan to run ESX 5.1, ESX cannot see the software raid so it still sees 2 disks, I would need to purchase a hardware raid card like a p212 for example. However as mine is a lab I am prepared to go without RAID for a little while.

Hoep this helps others.

I thought the B110i is a hardware RAID controller. We've configured it lots of times without having to set this up in software (Windows Server typically).
That said it does lack a lot of features - like battery backup, RAID 5 etc.
