hi Gang,
Im in the middle of configuring a new server and had a general question about RAID.
Based on my limited research and experience it looks like mirroring the OS and using raid 5 for data is the most common way to provide redundancy.
Is it possible to create a Raid 5 volume for the OS?
I'm guessing no since I haven't seen anyone mention it yet.

Yes you can. I do it all the time. Create your RAID 5 array and then install your server software. Be sure to have your RAID drivers handy and press F6 to install them. I would not use the whole array as drive C: though. This works fine. I use Adaptec 2120s controllers. There are performance differences between RAID 1 and RAID 5. That is why they recommend a Mirror for the OS. It will provide better performance reading data and is cheaper. But I have Windows 2003 SBS installed in sites with up to 75 users and RAID 5 for the OS has not been an issue.
