Hello,

After other computer experts were enlisted to try and get the system up and running at a restaurant where previous establishments had used the Aloha POS, but before an Aloha technician was contacted, I stepped in and was able to get it up and running(in large part due to some posts on here...Thank you all!!!). Everything was fine until recently, when the bar terminal started getting the BSOD, saying that the computer would be shut down to protect data.
At first it was intermittent, then more regular, and now it happens after a few seconds of use, or even upon being touched. It referred to ialmnrt5, one of the display drivers, and I am wondering what I can do to try and save it, if anything. Has this happened for anyone else?
Any ideas?
Thank you very much in advance for any responses!

If you can get it to work in safe mode without crashing you can try to uninstall an reinstall the driver

The first thing I would do is replace the memory (or reseat the memory that is in it). If you don't have compatible memory that you know is good you can try to run a memory test like memtest but that will require you to have a CD to boot from or if the terminal is USB bootable a usb boot flash drive. (google is your friend) Set a restore point first and delete the video adapter will let you test if the computer will run for any length of time without the offending driver. (cancel installing the driver on reboot). If it runs without the offending driver this might also point to a memory problem. Some video adapters will run 800x600 without their own driver and depending on the type Aloha setup this may be enough for you to use the machine

Make sure it is not a heat issue (overheated processor)

drivers can be dloaded here

Thank you eburks...I was unable to get it to start in safe mode. We also experienced some other BSOD's, these times with no reference to the ialmnrt5...So I replaced the memory...And so far, its been working, though I am keeping all my fingers crossed at this point...
Also, when I took the back off the terminal initially, it was rather hot, which leads me to believe that it if it heats up like that again, we'll run into the same issue.
Any ideas on keeping it cool?

Thanks again to both of you!

Clean every heatsink surface, I don't know the unit so I don't know if it is fanless, If it is fanless there is not much you can do except make sure air can get around it. I put up signs that say "Please let me breathe or I might die on you" and "If its got vents in it don't block or you might kill it" but people still bury equipment in phone books paper etc.

Some fanless units have fan power connects on the board so you might get creative and add a fan

If it has a fan you can clean it or replace it. I have several Javelin Vipers that have 2 fans 1 for PSU 1 for processor. The PSU fans that are in them vary a lot from unit to unit, some are quiet and some are loud. Guess which ones stay cooler. Hint more fan RPM means more noise. If you replace a fan do not go with a lower RPM

There is a little unit made to cool harddrives that has 2 fans in it that could be placed up against the outside of the case but you may need to get creative with a screen to protect paper and fingers google search for harddrive cooler found next link

the masscool is the one I was thinking of but there are some other interesting ones (the scythe) oooooh let's chop fingers
