here's my system's specifications:
MotherBoard:
GIGABYTE P4 Titan 667 (GA-8INXP) Based on Intel E7205 chipset
CPU:
Intel Pentium4 2.40 GHZ
RAM:
4 x 256MB KINGMAX DDR-333 TinyBGA DRAM Module
VGA:
Gigabyte Maya II ATI Radeon GV-R9700 PRO
HDD:
Seagate Baracuda 7,200 RPM 40 GB ATA/100
DVD:
Samsung 52X DVD Reader
Casing:
A-Open Full tower chasis, 400 Watts Power supply, 2 chasis fans
OS:
Windows XP with ALL service packs and updates installed

i used to have this same problem a couple of weeks back when the system froze completely requiring a reset.. and sometimes i got this error mentioned above,
after some testing, i realized that setting the AGP bus speed to 4X (instead of 8X) solved the problem! no more crashes while playing 3D games

but

i have installed a clean OS on this new HDD 6 days back, everything was running Perfectly without a single crash (4X AGP as well).
till i enabled TV output today ( i used to have that working before )

and the system started encountering the error mentioned above at random intervals..

i had Windows Media Player streaming audio in the background, and a Microsoft Plus! 3D Screen saver in the foreground, when i heard my monitor click like it was changing resolutions..
the TV output display went black, and i had this error popup:
"Windows - System Error : Microsoft Windows detected and recovered from a device failure. Please save your work and reboot to restore full functionality."

system even viewer reported the error about the device being stuck in a loop ("The driver ati2dvag for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop.&quot

of course, the only solution was to restart..

i have invested thousands of dollars on this new setup, and i would love to see it work flawlessly..

your help would be greatly appreciated,

I gave up and just decided to build a whole new system.
ASUS A7N8X Deluxe
AMD 2500+ Barton
1 GIG Kingston DDR333
ATI 9500 Pro
350W Enermax
NO OC (I had it at 3200+, but didn't find any slight differences)

Did you try contacting ATI to see what they say? Also, I hear some power supplies don't work well with certain graphic cards. Could be your motherboard not being compatible with your graphics card. I did suspect the Windows Service Pack to be the culprit, but one time, I did a fresh install and played a 3d game and it crashed.

well the video card is supposed to be 100% compatible with the motherboard, and they'r both Gigabyte anyway..
Gigabyte said it's a driver issue..
ATI are taking their time to reply.. it's been 2 weeks already.

my power supply is supposed to be more than enough to drive my components.. the motherboard has a dual power system, and the chasis has 3 cooling fan keeping the system at a steady sub 40C temperature, so i'd rule out a power/heat issue..

i don't know what else to check really.. i think i've checked over 1000 posts on the net for a solution to no avail

I have the same things happen at where I am. I know for a fact that ATI products have a glitch. I have installed 3 computers with an ATI Rage128 Fury ProII/Xpert2000 Pro,
ATI Ratheon GVR9700 Pro, and a ATI Rage 128 GL AGP on PC's.
They all had that problem of infinite loops. So we took them back and got Gforce 4 cards and they are working just fine.

By the way the cards were Gforce4 MSI TI4600 TD 8x 256DDR Dual DVI,VIVO,TV They are great!
