For some strange reason my Computer starts beeping after about 5 minutes of operating any 3D game. It quits as soon as I go back to 2D mode. There doesn't seem to be any set pattern to the beeping. It doesn't seem to affect the games, but it is annoying. Is the MB trying to tell me something? Is it bad memory? I have tried everything I can think of to no avail.
Gigabyte 8KNXP, 2.8 Pentium 800 FSB, Powercolor ATI Radeon 9700, 512 Ram - all standard timings no overclocking.

My first thought would be that your power supply isn't up to the load. Check that and see what it's rated for.

Also, I found this page which has a full review on that motherboard and while they didn't mention the powersupply in their test machine, according to their stats (they use a 9700 too) you should be fine in 3d games.

Thanks Kylebellamy for your suggestion, but my power supply was one of my first suspects so I replaced it with an Enermax 450 W Supply, still beeps in 3D mode. I also have a power smoothing UPS installed to ensure steady power. I thought of over-temperature, but my case has 5 cooling fans and our ambient temperature isn't that hot where I live. Its quite odd that any 3D games will still continue to run, although not smoothly, but they still run, and the beep goes on. When I return to 2D, its like a switch goes off and the beeping stops.

hello sebastes
interesting, i also have a radeon 9700 pro the mb being a asus p4g8x and have exactly the same problem, have u checked you;re internal speaker?

Hello Bandit39
Thanks for replying, its interesting that 2 completely different MB's are doing the same thing with the only commonality being the Radeon 9700. I noticed that when I was using 3D, my CPU temperature increased dramatically, getting close to the warning limit I had set in the CMOS. So I increased the temperature warning setting by 10 Degrees, (Still within limits according to Intel for my CPU - 75C) and the beeping went away. It was difficult to determine the temperature of the CPU when you have a 3D application running, because as soon as you went back to 2D the Temp would drop so quickly, it was hard to see the difference, but perseverence paid off and I was able to catch the temperature before the beeping quit and saw what the problem was. Gigabyte has a program that gives you all the basic MB readings, I believe ASUS does too. I hope this was helpful.
