Radeon 8500 lockup

I just installed my radeon 8500 AGP on my system. It boots up in normal vga video fine at first, then I install updated drivers off the ati site and the bundled software and restart. My system will boot up and windows will start but after about 3-5 min. it will lockup. I swaped it with my gforce card and everything runs fine. could it be a compatibility issue? I really want to keep this card. My specs:

P4 1.5ghz
biostar m7sxf
sis 645/961 chipset
SB audigy sound card
win2k and xp pro(dual boot, locks up in both)
WD 40Gb HD
Kingston NIC

I have a Devil Monster II 8500 I just installed on my computer. The problem is I cannot find a driver that works. I'm running XP, and I'm using a 2K driver in compatiblity mode and it freezes up some of my games. I would like to know where I could find a driver THAT WORKS.
Any help would be great.

i had it in winXP home edition
w/
Soyo SY-KT400 ultra
ATHLON XP 1600
PC2100
w/ Raid 0 2xMaxtor ATA133
ATI Radeon 8500LE
This system is known running a GeForce4Ti4200 fine without any crashes. After i put ATI in there, i had couple of crashes.

So, for further test,I put the ATI to a
Shuttle AK31 v2.0
Duron 900
PC2100
w/ Maxtor 4G 5400HD ATA33
running Win98

Runs smoooth in this win98 system so far .
might be the driver.
but download the driver from the website anyway.
the driver come/w the CD is a pain in the a$$
it tries to put all the extra applications in ur system and i hated it.

It all seems like ATI did a EXTREMELY poor job at writing their own drivers??? I thought this company has like 1000 computer PHD's in there.....
