So we still have a few MICS and CICS out there we have to dial into through RAD. I do quite a bit of this from home. I've always kept a line at home. Either AT&T or Comcast. Both work fine. For cost purposes would like to look at alternatives. Have bought Magic Jack and Oooma to test. Was unable to connect with either service, which doesnt surprise me. Has anyone had any luck with landline alternatives? Or has anyone had any luck with these two services.

You will not be able to use a Majic Jack is doesn't work with a modem, i have tried

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS AND AVAYA

They use the internet for analog protocol which as you know is not 100 percent (voice cuts out) thus why it would not be supported since data transmission is a little more important than voice.
Good clean copper 1FL is best way to go for analog modems.

Do you have VPN access to those sites? If you do, install a DIGI One SP for IP to Serial connections. We have done that to about a half dozen sites and it works great. but you have to be on their network.

Actually I've had good luck with fax / modem calls using the Obi100 with Google Voice. I've never tried using it with RAD, but I have used it for other data calls and many faxes and never has one failed

Luke. Thanks! I've had success using Analog Station off IP Office with SIP trunks so I think that would have better chance of working than OOMA and Magic Jack which I know DON'T work. Just ordered Obi100. Hopefully will work with Google Voice but if not, then will try CallCentric or last case scenario our SIP trunks with carrier. Either way will test with all 3 and report back!!

Best way to make money??? Don't spend money!!!

I used to use Vonage at my home for faxing and RAD & it worked wonderful. Minus the contract they make you sign & the continued rising price.

I use magic jack now and it works just great but i use the old magic jack. the connection is only as good as the computer your running it on with the old magic jacks. You need at least a pentium D with 2GB of ram and absolutely NO bloatware on the computer.
my three magic jack lines run on Dell optiplex GX620 SFF machines with 2GB ram on Windows 7 Enterprise. Standard 100MBPS network cards.
Works flawlessly. Faxes go right through and Dial up networking & rad never miss a beat. The initial cost for the magic jack plans & computers is a little intense but it quickly paid itself off not paying the 62 dollars a month for vonage

So follow up. Got the OBI 100. Tried with 3 different services. See notes below. OBI says it's not for Emergency Calls. There are options for 911 which I didn't even mess with.
1-Google Voice. Awesome Easy setup. However couldn't connect to any sites.
2-SIP Trunks from ACE Innovative. Not as easy setup. Worked well when connecting. Have couple of POTS lines we've had trouble with in past and these still had problems. Think we pay $11.00 month for 500 inbound/outbound minutes. Pretty good option.
3-Callcentric. Awesome Easy Setup. Worked Great when connecting. Same issue with POTS Lines we've had trouble with in past. Doing pay as you go for Outbound Only (Which is great. Because I Don't want to receive any calls on this line) Think $.02/minute. Think they also have a $6.95 plan for 500 minutes which might work as well. Definitely my recommend for a home line solution to access RAD's.

FINAL NOTE: The two pots lines we have trouble only work with NRU 11 on PC with XP and Land line. We have PRI in office and it connects and it works with Comcast.
Even with XP Machine, neither Call Centric or ACE connected to one site. Call Centric connected to other site twice out of 4 tries. So neither seems quite as good as Comcast or PRI. But we have machine with Logmein in office for those two sites. Hopefully this can save you guys a couple dollars on your phone bill. Anyone else who tries other solutions. Please post.
