I RTFM and there is no mention of this issue.

Is the 19" rack mount for the NCP500/1000 adequate grounding for the system if the rack itself is fully grounded or do I need to install a separate ground to the system's ground screw?

TIA!

It will depend on the code in your country
Itu rack/system will have paint or powder coating and would not give a proper ground but if you ground the system to the rack ground it should be ok

Here a lot of systems are not grounded separately at all

This system is in Palm Springs, California USA

Powder coated rack? Hmmm... <scratches head>

Powder coating is a paint technic that used powder sprayed on to the metal and baked in a oven to harden.

rule of thumb is scratch off an area with powder coat is and drill a hole and attach a lug with a machine screw a flat and a lock washer and nut and use some green thhn 12 awg ground both the rack and the phone system to same grounding spot or telco ground !!

Thanks, cwc3.
It's an NCP system that has static on all 4 trunks. The lines test clean so it points to the system. Static is on both digital and IP phones.
The system has no ground wire attached which is why I wonoered about adequate grounding through the rack mount frame.
They will try a separate ground wire and then move to replace the system if grounding does not help.
(fyi - this was not my install) <wink>

Can't see a ground cleaning up that. Is there static on internal calls

like obt says grounding wont cure static on lines .if you dont have a spare co card to swap out !got a spare analog ext OR a fax line or a dialtone from another provider or even a magic jack for test purposes ? frog it over to line one position on 4 co card grab line 1 IS THERE STATIC?
