Is the essential edition license a requirement on Release 9.x? We have an IP500 chassis, that was upgraded to R9.0 (has the software upgrade 7 (R9.0) license), but after upgrade it is coming up with "Essential License is not present" error..

Also, noticed that under our control unit, all of our hardware/cards have the same serial number - "00e007052bad".

Any ideas?

What level did you upgrade from?

to get a virtual essential edition licence you need to upgrade from V7.0 to V8.0
Make an external call (not 100% sure if this is necessary but better to play it safe)
then upgrade to V9.0

now you have upgraded to V9.0 you will need to purchase the licence (which is safer anyway as the Virtual licence would be lost if you ever need to replace the system unit)

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

Two separate licenses : upgrade(275669) and essential(275631)
If you upgraded from a earlier version where a essential license was available then a virtual license is generated, in all other cases you need to buy the essential license.

I had this happen once. Assuming it had an essential license in the config before the upgrade, look at an old config and copy the essential license and paste it into the system. I had it disappear from the config on an upgrade a few weeks ago. Strange.
