So with R9.0 SIP trunks without the SBCE are not supported!
Does this mean they will not work at all or just that Avaya will not support them?

To add 4 SIP trunks onto an IPO with now cost an additional £1218 + 4 x £53 = £1,430 !!!!!!

Really??

Might be worth waiting until this is actually released.

Or speak to Terry Jones and see what he can tell you.

What i have seen is that it is endpoints.
But 9.0 is not even in trial and everything can change, even when it is in trial.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I have just got off a 2.5 hour webinar with Terry Jones :)

It related to SIP trunking for sure, and our disti says:

Avaya “NEW” SBCE (Session Boarder Controller) for IP Office due for release shortly, now included on Januarys Price file V2 (attatched) along with the details around it. Remember SIP trunks connected directly to IPO without an SBC will not be supported form R9 onwards so get ahead of the game!

If this is the case then I think The Avaya Sales prevention Department has been at work again.

Wow that much for SIP trunks??

In the region I work customers are VERY sensitive to price (they expect a 1 engineering day install to cost only 100 quid), cant see how that will work here

:(

Not supported"
I think 90% of IP Office systems will be "not supported" because only a happy few can afford the service contracts Avaya "Offer"
So this is a lesson "How to push up IP Office to the Fortune 500 customers".
We have some other brands we work with, these are no so versatile as IP Office but in general they do well enough and they cost a lot less as a Avaya.

A simple mind delivers great solutions

If this really is what is going to happen then SIP trunks are over!
It is really crazy if it is needed.
But not supported probably means it just keeps working fine.

As a quick survey and hilariously off topic, how many sites do you have (%age?) that have IPOSS?

@tlpeter, I agree this will mark the end of SIP trunking at the small end anyway...
It is rare we sell an IPO without SIP trunks. Maybe it will now be rare we sell an IPO

IPOSS -> 0 !!!!

We do a lot of smaller systems with SIP trunks only 5-10 channels
But we do also have sites with 30 channels each and one will be 50 or 60 soon.

IPOSS - so far One

I just wondering about wording " SIP trunct conected directly to the IPO." are sip trunks going through a router connected directly?

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

I think for this purpose, anything connected not via an SBC (or, specifically, Avaya's SBCE) is direct

I think Avaya wants to push to the basic edition for small sites with SIP trunks.
But we use VMPro a lot for those small sites and then it will really be a deal breaker.
Do you know what the list price will be as you know the price for Pounds.

As I understand it, in GBP

SBCE = 1218.75
SIP Channel Licence (each) 53.13

I am going to check with Terry Jones.....

IPOSS sales/contract = 0
If above is true IPO = 0 (more than likely) :)

Thanks,

If i google for the SBCE then i see it can handle up to 2000 similtanious calls.
In that case then i think we are not that bad as we can put it in the data center next to the providers SBC (which we use)
Then we can use it for multiple customers.
But it still sucks big time.

Davea2, I would suggest that you do get in contact with Terry Jones as you've miss quoted him.

What you have stated isn't the case at all.

The only folk I have quoted are our Disti.
I am seeking clarification now from Avaya

What is a SBCE and what does it do?

From what Im getting from comments, they should find a way to make analog more cosgly than Sip or PRI, to force people to move on; in Canada anyway

SBCE is session border controller enterprise.
Asession border controller is just a server/device that adds more security to sip trunks.

Tbh, your disty shouldn't be quoting anything that is to do with R9.0 until GA.

I don't think TJ said this today, I thought is more about security and multiple SIP trunks on IPO, but I will admit to making a brew around that time in the weninar!!!

Said old Tezza an email, I'm sure he will clear this up.
