Customer is going from an R6 to R7. What's the best way to carry over the programming?

1. Can I use the PC software. Download the R6 and push it to the R7?

2. Can I use a PCMIA back up card from the R6 to the R7?

... I searched.. couldn't find anything for sure.

Thanks in advance

No and no.

You will have to sit at the phone and re-program the whole thing. A system with 20 phones or less should take about 20 minutes or so if you know what you are doing.

ttech..

Thanks... That's what I figured.

Plug the new processor in at the desk that has ext 10 or 11 at it and go to town. Look at the old programming at one phone and program the new system with another.

I'm going to the site tomorrow to pull down the R6 config to my laptop. Then I'll go home with a Margarita at my side I'll "stare & compare" the R6 on my labtop to to my desktop PC in R7 Release 1.0 mode. Then push the new config to the R7 91.0 processor.

Couple things.

1. The cust is not in a big hurry... so time is on my side.

2. I wish I could open multiple sessions of the "Partner ACS Administration Tool" I'd open one with my R6 config and one in R7 so I could do a cut/paste across all on the same PC.

3. Is it true that maybe the R8 will be able to accept older "R" codes?

I usually power up the 7 and pull 10 or 11 off the the 6 and put a display phone on each and go side to side program to program , like TT said 15-20 min and your done

in my opinion your making too big a deal of it keep it simple and get it done

It is true that R8 will have a function to update the translations from R6 or R7. If customer isn't in a hurry, you may want to wait two weeks and get an R8 processor. April 6 is announced release date.

I have a client that is upgrading from an R3 to and R8.

Is doing it manually the only way to do the upgrade?

Thanks.

upgrade the R3 to an R6 via flashcard then read it out with the R8 software and pop it into the R7 processor.
That is if you have the flashcard to do so otherwise the expenses for it are not warranted as the flashtools software runs around $350 plus the card to upgrade and so on.
