We are just in the process of deploying Lotus Notes R5. We have users worldwide so need to deploy the client as well. Is it possible to distribute a pre-configured client before the servers are finalized? We will have approximately 12 servers distributed throughout our network. If this is possible, what kind of information will we need in order to pre-configure and install on the desktop. I don't want them to use it yet but just to have it. We have another messaging environment today so we will simply cut them over. Obviously anything I can do in advance would be helpful.

Thanks,

Patti

This is in the IBM:Domino FAQ. I wrote this one:

We have a lot of remote users. They are bringing their laptops in next week, but we're not ready to deploy R5 yet. What should I do?

I've done this trick before, and it works really well. I assume that the hard drives have at least 100 MB free to accomplish this.

Copy the contents of the \clients\w32intel directory from the CD into some directory on the hard drive that your users won't easily find. I'm thinking something like c:\notes\upgrade.r5. This way, when you're ready to deploy R5 using the automated install, you can drop the setup.iss file into that directory via an e-mail message and then send out the automated upgrade message. Users won't need to do this over a dial-up connection because the installation files will be stored locally.

I've done more R5 deployments than I care to think about.
