Hello,
someone have found problems upgrading to domino server 6.x and using R5 developed applications with R5 client? I have listened that there are possible R6 server crash problems using R5 client versions before 5.08.
Any suggestion about this topic very appreciated!
Thank You in advance

M

I have used R4 clients on R5 servers, and R5 clients on R6 servers without any problem. I've even used R6 clients on R5 servers and it turned out okay.
Of course, if your mail file is not in the same version as your server, you will have problems. If you design or modify design with a client that is not the same as the server, you will very probably have problems also.
But just using a client is not an issue.

Pascal.

Thank You Pascal for your reply;
what I had listened is about the existence of some system keywords that, if they are present in the code of the old applications, can crashes the R6 server accessing the applications with old client...
But I ask myself, wich keywords?

Maurizio

No code keywords from Notes formulas or script should crash an R6 server. I find that notion rather strange, since Lotus is well known for developing server generations that are compatible with the previous generation.
No R4-developed app should crash an R5 server. R6 still understands R4, even though Lotus does not support such combinations.
Of course, there may be exceptions. After all, it is still highly recommended to test before upgrading. But nothing catastrophic should happen. Maybe an app will break, that is a risk. But the result would simply be debugging the app to see what is wrong and correct it.
The server itself should stand strong. R6 is more robust than R5, which itself was a lot better than R4. So I really do not think that an R6 server has much to fear from an application.
Nonetheless, test first.

Pascal.
