I have a fully loaded R3.0 system with 3-308EC cards and a VM 5.0 card. I purchased an R6 upgrade card from ebay that is supposedly new. However, when I tried to upgrade my R 3.0 system, the light goes red for a second then turns green and the system boots up normally and the upgrade does not occur. I know these cards are only good once and I have followed the installation instructions to the letter.

My question is this, does the VM card have to be removed from the carrier to do the upgrade or can it be left in?

If it has to be removed for the upgrade, what programming or other issues are there when re-inserting the VM card?

Also, is it best to have ONLY the processor card installed for the upgrade?

Thanks to all!

It sounds like you got ripped off, the card should upgrade upon powering up if it hasn't been used yet.

O-yea, you don't have to remove any of the 308's or the VS to upgrade only take out any PC cards that may be in the processor before you put in the R6 upgrade.

OK, I've got some additional "hmmmm's" for this one.

I have a 3.0.3 ACS and a brand new, sealed in the mailer from Avaya, 6.x upgrade card.

I powered down the ACS, removed all the PC Cards (3.X RAC, and PMV 2.0), inserted the 6.x upgrade card, and powered the ACS up. I got a momentary Red LED then solid Green. The version is still 3.0.3 though.

The odd thing here is if the upgrade is used, like the 3.x that I pulled out of there, or another 5.x that I know to be used, is put in, the ACS just powers up green, not red at all. But if I put in this 6.x upgrade, I always get that momentary red LED.

What do you guys think about that?

To me it seems like the ACS knows the upgrade is there but refuses to apply it unlike the used cards that the ACS knows it's not there. What's your opinions?

I've got the same exact issue going on. I've now purchased two of these 'upgrade' cards that don't do anything. Going from R3.0.2 to R6 - same symptoms. Sealed mailer from avaya, etc. Didn't purchase it from a dealer in Redford, Michigan by any chance, did you?

A proper upgrade card should flash from red-green-red-green multiple times before settling on solid green letting you know the upgrade has occured.

Turns out I had a bad card. A replacement worked just fine. Telecomboy is right, during the upgrade the light will flash red/green for about 20-30 seconds and the go solid green to show the upgrad has occurred.

I bought minbe from a reputable guy I know for $400

I put it in leaveing in all the cards and presto it did exacvtly what it said it would do.

If you'rre not getting the new software then it's poossibly a dud..sorry

Well, I finally got the upgrade to take. My supplier reports that the first 2 cards came from the same lot from Avaya and were not loaded correctly at the time of manufacture. When he sent me a different card from a different lot the upgrade worked fine. The tip off was how the LED acted when the ACS was powered up. The ACS recognized that there should be an upgrade there, but then there was no upgrade present. #-) kinda something like the proverbial swing and a miss. The pitch was made but the batter didn't connect. [dazed] At least all's well that ends well! [smile]
