What's the longest word you can find that can be typed entirely on the top row of a standard QWERTY keyboard?

Here's one to start you off:
Code:
[white][b]typewriter[/b] - 10 letters[/white]

[tt]_____
[blue]-John[/blue]
[/tt][red]"If you're flammable and have legs, you are never blocking a fire exit."[/red]
-Mitch Hedberg

How often do threads follow the lead of the 'orginial post' [smile] for more than a few posts?

"I mint no offense," Tim said breathlessly.

Tim? Who is Tim?" questioned Tom, irately.

But what if its set up as a different language ...

Boca,

Your meaning lost me. I know I'm overly-sensitive sometimes, but a smiley with your 11 Apr 05 8:51 would have been nice. I sure hope you don't have that AOL thing I've heard so much about... where smilies are difficult.

Tim

Peaceful waters flow through a cool shaded grotto. Fine white sand makes a delicious resting place for the weary traveler. Light breezes wander in, stepping through the trees, gently tousling your hair, moving to playfully ripple the water, then finally relaxing into quiescence. "Idyll," you think. "It's the perfect word." In accord, all troubles smoothly and quietly pass from your mind. You are left only in the present, enjoying the refreshing moment of equanimity and centeredness.

Tim != Tom (i - rately) < Tom Swifties.
I just forgot the :)[blush]

"You said "Tim said", not "Tom said."." Tom said irately.
:)

"Sheesh, too much syntax, I feel like a programmer." said Tom in code, like a Church tax collector. [pc3]

Sorry, Boca,

[red]irately[/red] caught my eye, apparently, without the rest of it. Didn't mean to snap. Now that I get it - good one!

Actually, the "Tim said" (as well as the [blue](H)[/blue])was on purpose, to let higgins know I wasn't trying to send his thread into space or anything.

Lawd (it's a southern thing), I'm glad I didn't go with my initial notion of including all the words you can make with Ctrl, Fn, Alt, Home, Pg Dn, End, Ins, Del and Enter. Whew.

You generous geniuses continue to put up with me mighty well.

I appreciate it.

THanks,
Tim

Let's take it one step further. Assuming the same possible positions for keys as are currently on the keyboard (that is, only being able to swap letters for other letters), what arrangement of letters would cause

- the most words possible to be typed with the left hand only?
- the least words possible to be typed with the left hand only?
- the most words which require alternating-hand typing?
- the most efficient typing as measured by 1) total distance fingers have to move from row to row and 2) more frequent use of the dominant fingers (forefinger, middle) and less frequent use of the weaker fingers (ring finger, little finger)?
- the least efficient typing as measured the same way?

We'd have to discuss the efficiency measurement. I would say that typing typewriter is more efficient than typing a word with the same number of letters, but with two letters on the top row and the rest on the home row. Except, when I try it, I type the word not so quickly, and with errors!

typerwiter

teypwriter

...but I started getting it faster and more accurately. Hmmmm. A difficult task.
