worked a treat" kinda bugs me when people on the forums use it, since it means nothing to me and also sounds silly to me. I think "worked great" would be more effective in relating to an international crowd that one's suggestion was helpful.

Is "worked a treat" the opposite of "played a trick" ? [upsidedown]

:)

I like it Dan, shame that since the conversion of Treats to M&Ms doesn't work quite as well, does it!

...and as for Snickers v Marathon and Opal Fruits v Starburst, don't get me started.

Ah now - the Snickers renaming was a real shame. No longer do jokes like this work:

"I entered a marathon once. It took me days to remove the peanut"

Doh!

Uh, what Snickers renaming? Was this a UK thing? It's still Snickers in Raleigh!

Tim

Tim - sorry, I should have make clear that I was writing from a UK perspective, so you haven't missed anything!!

Tim,

There was a discussion about the Mars vs. Snickers thing here before, but I can't find the link?! (I've tried searching TT for "Twinkie", "Snickers", "Deep Fried", etc., no luck.)

Apparently what we (Americans) call a Snickers is called a Mars bar in the UK. There are also different names for Milky Way and Three Musketeers, but the UK names allude me at the moment. We discussed different types of candy bars that can be deep-fried - along with Twinkies, of course.

BTW: You're in Raleigh!?! I live in Raleigh, too!!

As they say, it's small world (and made even smaller by the internet). Actually, I suspected you were local a while back when you mentioned the pronunciation of Wendell. And with Research Triangle Park next door, I would be very surprised if there weren't other "Raleighites" on the forum!

Tim

Snickers in the US are presumably the same as Snickers here - chocolate bars with peanuts in (they used to be called Marathon).

Mars bars here in the UK are therefore presumably the same as Mars bars in the US (chocolate bars with caramel in).

Just wait until they bring out chocolate bards. What a way to get every schoolkid into Shakespeare!

I haven't had a (US) Mars bar in ages, so I can't remember for sure, but I think they have nougat in them, but no caramel. Snickers bars (US) have chocolate, peanuts and caramel.

Milky War candy bar (United States) = Mars candy bar (the rest of the world).
3 Musketeers candy bar (US) = Milky Way candy bar (TROTW).

From Wikipedia.

What does the rest of the world call the Mars Bar (US)?

From what I hear, all the focus groups rejected [blue]"Uranus Tavern"[/blue]

Wikipedia said:
The Mars Bar was first created in 1936 and has become an instantly recognisable worldwide brand. However, in the United States, it is known as Milky Way. In the US, the Mars name was used until 2000 for a different bar, now known as Snickers Almond. (The worldwide Milky Way bar is known as 3 Musketeers in the US; there is no longer a "Mars Bar" on the US market.)

I think Wikipedia is wrong. I've eaten all three kinds, and there is no similarity. The Mars Bar has (had?) whole almonds, not peanuts.

(I should have browsed further before posting...)

Here's an American Mars Bar inside and out:

Note that it DOES have almonds.

I thought I had too much time on my hands but someone has enought to slice mars bars and take pictures of it
fantastic
mad, but fantastic

And "Uranus Tavern" that'll keep me giggling all week

Not only did they have enough time to DO it, they had enough time to POST it too. It's interesting that they thought (correctly, apparently, since I looked it up) that people would actually be interested in what they did.

I LOVE THE WEB!
