(I just saw this phrase appear in a reply in a thread in the "...Ethics..." forum.)

Who was the "illitarut" who thunk up and popularised this convoluted tripe, which everyone seems to perpetuate in their wedding vows? Although it may not sound as "tripefully" poetic, wouldn't vows be more precise if they read, "We shall not part until death"?

Just because 50 million people say a silly thing, isn't it still a silly thing?

Spare me the sight of Middle-Aged Speedo-wearing Ken (also sold with a red sports car as Mid-Life Crisis Ken), but I'd really like to buy Comb-over Ken...or Dream On, Ken, who comes with a teeny little bottle of Viagra and Barbie's little sister Skipper...all grown up!
Thanks!
Elanor

[laughtears][rofl] Viagra and Skipper!!!

Peace,

Oh, so many replies, but I won't touch a one of them for the politically correct.

Hey, Elanor, you been stalking me?

elanor:

what do you call the day on which you were married to your ex?

My ex and I were married on December 7th, also known as Pearl Harbor Day. "A date which will live in infamy" works pretty well for me.

...which reminds me of my consultant buddy, Jean-Paul Thomas, whose father was an African-American soldier during WWII in Japan and Jean-Paul's mother is a Japanese war bride.

I asked him if that made for any cultural contradictions growing up. He said, "Not really...the only issue is that every December 7, I get the urge to attack Pearl Bailey."

Clever answer, I thought! [smile]

Dave,

Your post made me want to tell a story. Everyone sit back, and have a cup of T.

In my last two years of college I had the privilege of sharing an apartment with "Mike." Mike's dad was a white American military guy who'd been stationed in Japan, where he met and married Mike's mom. She was pregnant with Mike when she first flew to the U.S. (thus Mike call's himself "contraband.")

The family lived in Virginia, so Mike was basically a Southern kid. One curious bump in the road- Mike looked 100% Japanese, but his sister (from the same parents) looked 100% American. Genes and all.

All of this leads to one funny story: Mike told me once about being at the mall in a clothing store. He was looking at merchandise when he overheard two clerks arguing ("You take him, I took the last one. I won't be able to understand a word he says." "No, I took the last one - it's your turn...) You get the picture.

At some point the "loser" of the argument approaches Mike and asks if she can help.

He says, with extra Southern zeal, "Y'all got this in my size?"

Lil clerk nearly fainted.

Tim

The talk about Pearl Harbor reminded me. My wife and I, through a friend, have met Tokyo Rose, (Who never really existed, read the followinglink), the Japanes radio announcer from WWII, while in Chicago one year. (I'm a VietNam Vet, just to date myself.) I knew of her through history and movies, but never thought I'd meet her. The freind that introduced us, (and no, she did not introduce her as Tokyo Rose, she told us the story later, after we had met her). Here's the real story about her.
