In networking with Windows ME on my computer to Windows 98 on my brother's computer, I receive an "Unable to Browse Network" error when I double-click the "Entire Network" icon. Yet, my brother can access "Entire Network." But I was able to access "Entire Network" before but don't know why. However, I can access my brother's computer via UNC name and mapping to that drive. I verified that the settings on my computer match my brother's. Does anyone know why I can't access "Entire Network"?

Do you have any shared resources (drives or printers) setup on your brothers computer?
Do you have the correct network protocols installed on both PC's?
Please post a little more information.

I did have shared resources set up on my brother's computer. And we did have all the correct network protocols installed. Altogether we had TCP/IP, NetBeui, IPX/SPX, and Family Logon. And we used Microsoft Network Client as the primary logon. And we are logging on to the same workgroup.

Both network adapters are bound to TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, and NetBeui.

Try searching for your brother's computer (from your computer) on the network.
You'll have to specify the exact "name" of the computer. This can be found by "right clicking" on "Network Neighbourhood" on your brother's computer and choosing "Properties" and then the Itentification tab.
Then do the search - This can be done from the start menu - Start/Find/Computer...

Good luck.

Also -
Unless you are playig network games that require IPX/SPX the only protocol required is "TCP/IP" for your network.
Additional protocols will only slow things down.

When I get home, I will try searching for my brother's computer using Find as you suggested. I will let you know later if I can find it.

Actually, isn't the only required protocol NetBeui? Because TCP/IP requires an IP address for communication, and my brother and I aren't using one. Maybe having the extra protocols is creating the problem? But my brother said we needed IPX; he was following instructions from a manual. I have to touch base with him on that. But as far as I know NetBeui should be the only protocol that has to be used.

One other thing, what do I do if I find my brother's computer (using Find)? And what if I don't? What's the next step?
