I'm fairly new to Illustrator CS+ and am having problems with (what should be) a very simple matter (that I can do in Fireworks without any problems). My goal is to have undistorted text on a rotated arcing path. I have poured through the Help files and the Tutorial video and have can place text on the path with little problem. When the text is placed on the path, I have to recreate the arc (annoying, but okay). The problem arises when I try to rotate the path. When the path rotates, all the text becomes (slightly) distorted. I have checked Type > Type on a Path > Options and everything is still Rainbow, but something is wrong.

If I put text on the inside of an oval instead of an arc, everything looks fine. I don't want to use ovals however, since that will crowd the illustration (which will have LOTS of text) and make it harder to select past the ovals. Any ideas? This is driving me nuts... I can't believe such a simple function is proving so difficult! Thanks.

...best post a link to a screen grab of what you are experiencing, i've never had trouble with arching text, some fonts can be a bit tricky to look balanced than other fonts, but that is about the only problem i have encountered...

...and text wrapping around an 'S' bend can be troublesome...

Try to get the font to look the way you'd like on your arc, then create outlines. At this point you can THEN rotate it. The only problem is that you will not be able to edit the text, as it will now be a set of shapes (in the form of letters). Hope that's not too confusing for you! Good luck!
