Sorry I couldn't be more descriptive.

I have a program written in Fox 2.6. I tried running it in two different machines (I had recently reinstalled Win 95 in both of them). Both have win95. One has a 133 Pentium Processor and 32 MB Ram -let's call it the "small one", the other has a 233 (I can't remember well) Pentium MMx processor and 32 MB Ram -let's call it the "big one"-. At a certain point of execution of the program, the big one stops suddenly with the error "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". The small one has no problem running it.

My 2.6 version is already patched to run in fast processor machines, and the project includes a config file that sets an mvcount of 3,600 for both machines. I've been thinking and thinking about the problem, and I can't find a fix (I already traced the program, and I didn't find any trouble)...

Are both machines running the same version of Win95? Have they both had the same Service Packs / patches applied? Do they both have the same software installed. Are they both running the same "background" software? (e.g. Virus checker, screen saver, etc.)

On the hardware side, are they configured similarly? HD types, modems, network cards, video cards, etc.

On the software side, everything is the same on both machines (including the "background" software). On the hardware side, the "small one" is a Digital Venturis Fx-2, and the "big one" is a Compaq Deskpro 1000 MMx... but I think hardware is not the problem (or is it? I guess it shouldn't be the problem. I have another Compaq Deskpro 2000 slower than the "big one" -it has, let's say, the same specs as the "small one", and it also runs the program with no problem at all. So, I guess it has nothing to do with hardware configs...)

The thing that confuses me most is that there's only one program of the whole project that causes the error in the "big one". And I've traced it a LOT of times and no error raises while tracing...

With different hardware you have different device drivers and these can cause problems - especially if they haven't been updated. Have you checked the Compaq site for PROM updates and any other "fixes" for your hardware. Since I got my Compaq system last August, I've upgraded the PROM 5 times, and updated video, audio, mouse, NIC and keyboard drivers at least once each.

You're right... but there's one thing I forgot to mention before (sorry). The program that doesn't run on the "big one", used to run on it, and it stopped running just two weeks ago. Nobody changed drivers or downgraded (in case it could be possible) eproms. In fact, after win95 was reinstalled on that machine, the program still ran, it just stopped running two weeks ago...

But it confuses me. You're right, I know that if I change drivers on the machine, it could possibly result in an abnormal operation of a program (what makes me think that resintalling win95 could have been a bad idea, since there can be different versions of a driver). On the other side, don't you think that the program... nevermind. I was about to say that the program should (or must) have stopped running right after reinstalling windows, but this is not strictly true... So let's make a deal. I will run it on the "small one", and next week I will try to run it again on the "big one". Meanwhile, if you have any ideas, please let me know, as I'm really interested in solving the problem.

Thanks for your help... and sorry for my English :)

This error maybe caused due to virus in your system. I suggest you check the system with a good anti-virus software (I recommend Norton) with the latest anti_virus definitions.
