Hi all,
I have been seeing some really weird things on the network recently, for some reason, some computers are getting the following error message when trying to browse one of the Windows NT4.0 sp6a servers file shares, e.g.:
If I go to "Run" then type in \\mail (stand alone server) or \\192.168.0.2 it returns "The specified network name is no longer available".
I can shell into dos and ping it, and receive replies, if I try to access another server (Primary DC running DHCP and WINS) (i.e. \\server or \\192.168.0.1 it works fine, the folders are listed and files can be accessed without problems.
If I try to access the C$ on one of the problematic Windows 2000 machines (there are 3, lets call them user1, 2 and 3) it returns the same error.
e.g. User1 trying to connect to the shared printed on User2 I get the same error message (or from user1 to user2 etc)
I have searched the forums and google.com but nothing appears relevant, the mail server has two network cards (both on different i.p. addresses and subnets). This problem has only begun in the last week or so, but only on some machines.
I am using TCP/IP and there are no duplicate I.P. addresses or computer names, I have rebooted the mail server and the server but without any results.
I would appreciate anyones help if they have seen this problem before, it is a real nightmare!!!
Thanks for reading, if you need any further info ask away.
