It seems every other web page I access lately has "The page cannot be found" displayed somewhere in it.

What's up? Or not?

An example today (see the right column):
It looks like an ad should have been there. But, this behavior is now rampant accross Internet.

I didn't get any of those errors on MSNBC, but I do get them occasionally. Either the server where the page is has high volume, or is down, or maybe your system is slow to respond.

Me transmitte sursum, Caledoni!

I don't think there is missing content, it is just blank - allowing the page to be viewed correctly at different screen resolutions.
You also see the content centered, giving two equal blank borders, left & right.

<Do I need A Signature or will an X do?>

You may also get these errors when content can't display due to browser security settings or the like.

I only get that message where "useful" advertisements are supposed to appear.

Then it's most likely your hosts file is blocking the adservers. If you want to see the "useful" ads, the link in my previous post will tell you how to access the hosts file to make the necessary changes. As for me, most ads aren't too useful so I use Firefox and the Adblock extension (
This lets you setup filters to block ads and you won't get the "page not found" error where the ad is blocked.[shadeshappy]
