"slant" text that is already conv. to curves or doesn't have italic 1

I want to italicize or "slant" text that has already been converted to curves or doesn't have an italic version. the envelope tool distorts too much. I seem to recall being able to do this simply but it's lost from memory.

Click on object and click again (not double click) 4 corners become rotation handles middle ones are slant handles.

I think the only ways are like you have done and better as Brushman says. I don't know others

Forgot to mention also you can use the 'transform' docker where you can click up the angle od slant, same as before just a bit more control.
