Hey all,

I have a user who is trying to send an e-mail to his brother but is unable to. When he tries to send the e-mail he gets the following message:

"The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'accountname@domain.com'. Subject 'E-mail subject matter', Account: 'Name', Server: '192.168.2.9', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for accountname@domain.com', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79"

He is trying to send this e-mail to his brother who lives in another state. I've checked the Microsoft site but I can't find anything that applies. I did find one item with the same "server response," but that was for Exchange 5.5. I'm running MS Exchange 2000. Anyone have any ideas on why this is happening???

Thanks,

Joe Brouillette

i wish i could help...i am getting the same reply as well help someone.........

It sounds like your user is using Outlook Express or another POP3 mail client. In the account properties he needs to to into the Servers tab and check the box marked something like "My server requires authentication"

Hi gmcdonnell,

He is using Outlook Express, and the "My server requires authentication" box does have a check mark in it. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

See the "Bounce messages from incorrect DNS resolve"
thread in this forum. Usually the receiving end is attempting a reverse DNS lookup that does not properly resolve.

Is this message coming from your Exchange server when the e-mail is "going out" or is this message what comes back from the remote mail server?

Also is 'accountname@domain.com' the same at both spots in the message?

ask if he has it only when you send mails to him or do other people have the same prob
