"Save Password" checkbox missing

Hi,

This is an opposite post to another I have found on this forum. I am planning to deploy a build using IE6Sp1 on Windows XP SP1. I have used an INS file during the unattended installlation of the OS to configure IE, and since then I have also used a branding pack created with the IEAK to refresh some setting.

At both stages, when authenticating with a proxy server, the "save password" checkbox is missing.

Any help, advice or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks for you comment. We are running Windows XP Professional Sp1 though. We have no instances of Windows XP Home.

There is not a password option for a proxy server.

sorry, you've lost me ;-)

The user authenticates by means of a Pop-Up authentication box. On our Windows 2000 systems (using IE6 sp1), this pop-up provides a "save password" checkbox. I'm pretty sure I've also seen this functionality on Windows XP maxchines. The build in question however, does not have this checkbox (not as in other queries I have found where people have had problems with the saved password), the checkbox is simply not there!

In XP you can define the proxy server under Control Panel (or IE) Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN settings. There is no requirement for a proxy server authentication.

But, check Internet Options, Security, Internet, Custom Level, and look at the User Authentication radio buttons as the last section of configuration. It may be that you are set to use cached credentials rather than prompting.

nope - didnt help I'm afraid. these options define whether credetials are sent and when, and there is one option that forces a pop-up rather than usuing auto/integrated authentication. my problem is soley 100% related to the lack of the "save password" checkbox - everything else is working fine inclusing authentication.

also, I have a Windows XP machine (vanilla config though), that is working as expected (ie, it does have the checkbox!)!!

Beginning to sound like a group policy issue.
There is not a checkbox for authentication GPO, but if the proxy server is defined as a GPO there would be no cause for an authentication request.
