Did anyone hear anything new ?

I have seen talk about this allover the net about this problem. No-one seems to know what is happening.

My server has much overcapacity ( the server has close to 0% cpu usage and lots of memory when the issue occurs ) My network is NOT the issue ( while "requesting data" i can copy data at high rates from the exchange to my workst. )

The MS technet entry about extending the time before Outlook will show " requesting data" is not valid, i have clients waiting for 10 minuttes before timing out.

I would love to get this pretty serious issue done with.

anyone know anything about this ?

I've done some packet captures on a system that is having this same problem. It appears that the GC in the site is not functioning properly and the client is being forced to get authentication from another server across a WAN link. I am putting in a call to MS tomorrow to figure it out.

I've posted a response to this issue in the thread entitled, "Requesting data from Exchange Server" - Why? PSC

I am still fighting it too. However, I have improved the situation slightly by installing 'hotfix 2' for Groupshield ver. 5.2 as this was causing all kinds of exchange problems.

It seems that many people resolved the problem by changing the NIC in their server and, I must admit, I have not had the opportunity to do that yet.

However, I have noticed that the Microsoft Search begins on the hour every hour (i see this in my application event logs) and whilst it runs I receive the dreaded requesting data message non-stop. If you know how to configure the search please let me know because I can't find it. I am sure that will do away with the 'requesting data' message

I have finally found a solution to this problem.

In the properties of my mailbox store, in Exchange 2000, "full text indexing" was scheduled to run every hour. This was running for 35 minutes of every hour during which the "requesting data" message constantly appeared on client machines throughout the office. I have changed the indexing to run once every morning at 5am and since then I have not seen one instance of the dreaded "requesting data message".

Unfortunately, I am not using "full text indexing" at all but still have this problem.

NIC in server and switch both set to 100/full duplex or whatever instead of auto.

DNS and WINS set correctly.

FSMOs checked and set correctly and replicated to all DCs.

Hi

I was having this problem sporadically and seemingly totally random.
I was receiving calls from client users when they tried to open Outlook.
My non technical solution was simple!
I found a quick fix was to log the user on and off again, this led me to the follwing conclusion and I haven't had a problem since.
Open Outlook as soon as you log on each morning, then minimize after checking mail, in effect keeping Outlook constantly open until logging off.
This gives the other advantage of inbox activity being announced immediately rather than having to check.
Oulook 2003 can runs in the task bar when minimised which is very tidy.

This doesn't answer why it happens, however nic seem to be most peoples problem - dell server forums especially.
