Hello,

I've partitioned & reformatted my hard drive and do NOT have an operating system installed. I've got a C & D partition, with C formatted with FAT32 and D not formatted, because the allocation units are bad and I'm unable to format drive D. But, I feel that I should be able to load the OS & everything I need on drive C.

I used the 4 boot disks for installing Win 2000 professional from the DOS prompt, converted to NTFS from FAT32 and when I reboot to finish the setup my computer says, "NTLDR is missing."

Does anyone know what I should do to correct this problem?
1. Is this a problem because of my hard drive?
2. Shouldn't I be able to use my C drive without using my D drive?

Thank you for your help.

I know this might sound silly - but have you removed to disk from the floppy drive before restarting ?
cheers
Ed

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have checked & there's no floppy in the drive.

The file system is still looking for ntldr. you could try using the erd and putting ntldr onto the root of C: But, you really need to run fdisk with the /mbr switch then use fdisk to remove any and all partitions, set up a 2 gig primary dos fat 16 partition and get the OS loaded. You could then use the convert command to select the file system you want. Then..use a third party utility to expand your partition to the size you want....

MY 2 cents...But I've found that you never, NEVER, want to mess around with iffy hard drives or multiple partitions when just stating to install an OS....

Thanks everyone for your responses. My hard drive is bad, so bought a new one and OS loads great. Thanks again!
