About a year ago I installed a new TEAC CD-RW drive on my computer, which runs Win 2000. For a while it worked fine. But recently, sometimes when I boot up, the CD-drive icon on the Windows bar will be crossed out, and if I put the cursor on the icon I get the message, "DirectCD, No supported drive!" This problem seems to be occurring more frequently now.

I know that CD burners can wear out if used a lot, but I seldom use this drive. (For example, I don't use it daily to back up files or anything else that intensive.)

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Bill B.

Start with what BuckEye said. I had this same/similar problem with a different program. It took a couple of shots, but finally got the program updates and it works fine.

Additionaly, you may want to try uninstalling the Roxio software, then re-installing it.

Next, obtain the software updates from as earlier recommended. Also, uninstall and re-install any other cd-r / cd-rw software.

Sometimes competing softwares can cause issues. Such as Nero and Roxio being installed together.

Hope this helps

I had a problem with my Teac drive under Win98SE as well, and solved it by wiping and reinstalling with Win2000 Pro.

Thanks, everyone.

I tried the tip of reinstalling the Roxio software, and that seems to have solved the problem. It seems that the first two things to try for most computer problems are...

1. reboot.

2. If that doesn't work, reinstall.
