This is a frustrating one...I have windows 7 ultimate running on my desktop. My machine is hardwired into my Belkin Vision N-1 router through a PCIe NIC. I run a static ip, and have had no browsing or updating issues. My wife tried to authorize iTunes and it gave her a network error (-48.) That made me check my network icon which reads "Not Connected No connections are available." When I use the Troubleshooter, it says "Troubleshooting Could Not Identify the Problem."
I am still surfing, but Network and Sharing Center say "No connections are available." I run Symantec Endpointe Protection, but I get the same results with it disabled.
Thanks for any help. This is killing me.

Open Network and Sharing/ Change adapter settings, to see what other Networking Adapters are on your machine. Right-click on the Adapters you are not using and Disable them. With that done does the Network Icon that says you are not connected disappear from the Notification Area?

Are you hiding any of the Notification Area icons?

See what this says on the matter, especially the updating drivers part.

No LAN Network Icon, Network Internet Access crossed out in system tray, all works though?

Have you tested from "Safe Mode with Networking?

Also if you are still having a problem after doing the stuff above, check for an app called "Bonjour Services"

It is installed by "ITunes" and some Adobe software.
It gives Windows 7 fits, when it comes to your connection.

Just uninstall it, and your connection will return, it is't really necessary for anything as far as I have been able to tell.

I had to remove it from both of my computers.

I have this problem with my AVG firewall. It will show the connection icon with a circle in it and say there is no network connection. Something like 3 minutes later the box will finally pop up that says "Your firewall is now set to <some name>" and everything is normal.

Prior to that I can surf all I want and load my Trillian web chat program, but MS Outlook will sit and wait for it to clear and one or two other apps that don't come immediately to mind.

So i tried everything I could think of...finally figured out that my version of Windows was invalid. Apparently the new Malicious Software Removal patch for 7 is a crack-buster. Score one for the "good guys." I guess.
