"Line-Side T1 " vs. T1 Card

I often get confused as to how these two terms are used within the context of discussions as well as questions asked.

I believe they both have different meaning when it comes to integration or troubleshooting telephony problems.

With a limited knowledge of telephony, I would be keen to read on the differences.

A LINE SIDE T1 CARD IS A CARD THAT SUPPORTS 24 ANALOG EXTENSIONS. IT TAKES UP 2 SLOTS ON AN IPE SHELF, AND YOU PROGRAM IT JUST LIKE A ANALOG PHONE (LD10).

What I am reading, based on your response is; The two terms are synonymous. I don't want to sound like a devil's advocate; but I believe there is a distinct difference as to how these two terms are applied in terms of integration.

In fact, I know what the card is and it is in my lab installed on Meridian 1 switch.

I guess, the question I may have is - why not just say "T1-Card" like any other card, instead of "Line-Side T1".

The two cards are totally different. The Line side T1 is for Analog ext like he said before. The T1 Card is used for TIE lines, SMART trunks, Outbound (like MCI trunks) or a mixture of lines and data channels. You can not use the Line Side T1 for those other type of trunks.

I have a line side T1 but unable to install it due to lack of documentation. PerryPJ above has said that the line side T1 programming is via LD10 just like an analog lines. My questions are the following:

1. If the programming is done via LD 10, what about the programming of the line coding and framing? (I need info on this because I'm a nortel newbie...)

2. The cable that comes with the line-side T1 have 4 ports (three DB9 and 1 DB15) can I use any of these ports to interconnect with an equipment with RJ48 ports? (Info please...)

On my Line Side T1's I just cable out to my frame and use pairs 1 & 2 for my jumpers to the T1 connection. I do have a file I can send you on the Line side t1 card if you want. Here are the settings:

T1 Switch 2 dip switch settings

1 T1 FRAMMING ON=D4 OFF=ESF

2 T1 CODING ON=AMI OFF=B8ZS

3-5 CPE-CSU DISTANCE
3=ON 4=OFF 5=OFF 0-133 FEET
3=OFF 4=ON 5=ON 134-266 FEET
3=OFF 4=ON 5=OFF 267-399 FEET
3=OFF 4=OFF 5=ON 400-533 FEET
3=OFF 4=OFF 5=OFF 534-655 FEET

6 LINE PROCESSING ON T1 LINK FAILURE ON=ON-HOOK OFF=OFF-HOOK

7 DAISY-CHAINING TO MMI ON=YES OFF=NO

8 MMI MASTER OR SLAVE ON=YES OFF=SLAVE

I have followed all the instructions I got from all the nice people in this forum. I have also read NTP 553-3001-1050 (Line Cards: Description) Based on these instructions, I have set the following to the card:

AMI/D4

LD 10 programming for each channels (0-15 for motherboard and 0-7 for the daughterboard)

I have created a straight cable (DB15 pins 1 3 9 11 to RJ45 1 2 4 5)

Using DB15 pins 1 3 9 11, I am able to provide a loopback to the card (Red Alarm Indicator LED goes off via hard loop)

Yet, I am now experiencing the following problems:

1. When I tried to connect the cable to Dialogic d'240PCI's RJ48C (T1 DSX-1) port, the Red Alarm LED is on and the Yellow Alarm LED is flashing.

Please help. Thanks.....

YOU MUST LIKELY WILL HAVE TO FLOP YOUR TRANSMIT AND RECEIVE AT ONE END OR THE OTHER OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

I installed the Line-Side t1 on the main cabinet of the option 11 and not on the IPE shelf. Is it ok?

hi every one
i have this below problem

From my Option 11c i have 14 analog extensions which are going to Analog trunk cards on an AVAYA.

I have setup meridian in such a way that all these 14 are in a HNT GRP. The operator AT avaya indeed switch the call to any of those AVAYA extension sitting behind AVAYA.


Now i have this bad peoblem of call disconnection when an external call land up on AVAYA and is switched by the operator. As far as conversation there is no problem.But when the call is hanged up by the user its not getting disconected. The channel from AVAYA --> MERDINA--->CO remains BUSY and over a period of time all the 14 channels are BUSY. what could be the problem
please advice me
