Wanted to get some opinions on something I'm trying to do.

We're moving from a Norstar w/ dedicated trunk lines to a BCM400 r4 system w/ a PRI. Our users are accustomed to pressing the "LINE" button on their phone when they want to get an outside line to place a call on the PSTN.

Obviously with PRI you press a routing code (9, in my situation) to do this. Is there is a workaround I can implement to simulate the old arrangement with the line button so that I don't have to train them all (and subsequently listen to them all complain about it) to press 9?

Any help would be appreciated!

I think you can do with with "Call Routing."

Where I am now, we have the exact same setup as you do, (dial 9), but in the place I worked previously, we had it set up where you would pick up the Intercom, start dialing and the system would see by the prefix that you wanted to use the PRI.

For example, we had three digit extensions, so if you diald 123, you got x123. However, if you dialed 954-555-1212, the system saw that you were dialing an external number, and sent the digits over the PRI. I didn't set that one up, but if I remember correctly, you could do it that way.

I don't think you can assign a button to act like a "line" button becuase with a PRI it "siezes" an open channel and that channel isn't tied to a physical line, per se.

The answer is NO..

Pri does not allow Physical line appearances.

The only option is if you want to be able to see calls on hold
then you can assign SWCA keys,.
These give you a visual hold button and assign the same buttons to each phone that require it.
It emulates the KEY SYSTEM method

EG: f*521 for Call Hold 1
f*522 for call Hold 2
F*523 for call Hold 3

do this to each phone
So when a call is held on extn 221 against call hold 1 then the same button flashs on all phones with this appearance.

And before you ask "NO" you cant get dialtone when pressing these buttons or use them to dial out. They are VISUAL HOLD buttons.

Have a go and see what you think..

I is done the same way. Make the sets prime to I/C and program a button to external autodial 9 .Feature * 1.
