Hi all,

I have a RedHat 7.3 NIS server with some RH7.3 NIS Clients. The NIS setup works fine for all the maps but at the client side while login as NIS users I am getting the following error:-

id: cannot find name for user ID 500
id: cannot find name for user ID 500

The samething is happening for "whoami" command.

But if I give " who am i" or "id" it responds properly.

Any idea how to solve this as it stops users running some apps.

Thanks and Regards,

Hi all,

The problem is solved. Actually it is the problem of security issues of Linux.

As users cannot do ypcat passwd, I was not getting the whoami output.

This can be avoided by editing the /etc/ypserv.conf and by commenting the line which disables users to do ypcat passwd.

Thanks
