I have Windows 98 2nd Edition and this recently started happening... Now I get a "Folders Bar" not just in Windows Explorer but also in Network Neighborhood and My Computer. I have clicked on the "x" it closes fine and I close the window out, which I always assume it saved that setting, when I open My Computer or Network Neighborhood the next time the "Folders Bar" reappears.

I have tried to duplicate this annoyance on another machine and never have been able to force the "Folders Bar" to appear when I open My Computer or Network Neighborhood. After the window is open, of course, I can click on "View" then "Explorer Bar" then "Folders".

The computer with the annoyance always has the "Folders" checked when I open My Computer or Network Neighborhood. If I uncheck it and close out the window, refresh the screen and open My Computer or Network Neighborhood the "Folders Bar" is there again.

I repeated this over and over for clarity. I have never seen this one before and hopefully someone knows how to fix this without reloading WIN 98. I am using IE 5.5 but this has been on the system for a while, in other words this started happening a good while after IE was installed.

Try setting your window the way you want it. Go to View/ Folder Options/ View Tab/at the top of the window you will see a button called "Like Current Folder". If that does not work, go back to the same place and choose "Reset All Folders" to put them back the way they were when first installed.

Yes, I have already tried that and had the same results.

Like I said, I tried to reproduce this problem on a different machine and could not force the Folders to stay on in My Computer and Network Neighborhood.

Have you tried View, Explorer Bar, and click on folder? It should have a checkmark beside it to always come up or if you click on it again, the checkmark goes away and it shouldn't come up until you tell it to again with the checkmark.

Clicking on X just turns it off for that session you are on it. ggebhart@clover.net
I hope I never get too old or arrogant to learn something new!
